Christopher Martin's 5k Race Report

Ahhh, Christmas, a most anticipated time of the year! A time to gather with friends and family and reflect on another year passed, indulge in too much food and drink and run the Christopher Martins 5k race in New Haven, CT!
This is hands down my favorite race. Every year it's the same, we arrive at Christopher Martin's Bar in New Haven and turn in our unwrapped toy for the less fortunate and in exchange receive our race bib. We shuffle over to the starting line following the hungover crowd of runners that enjoyed a wee bit too much egg nog or beer tasting the night before. The gun goes off and we are running down the flat streets of New Haven trying to get to the finish line as quickly as possible to enjoy some free Sam Adams beer.
This year was no different. The course was a bit slower this year due to snow found on the side streets left over from the 10 inches we got Fri night. I had to concentrate on my footing so as not to hurt myself for the post race activities. Hubby and I decided that in the spirit of Christmas we would declare this a competition free day and we ran side by side and crossed the finish line holding hands in a time of 25:41!
The post race party started with some friendly reindeer games. Up on the bar, you found the chugging contest, the best sportsbra contest, the tallest runner, and the Hot Bod contest, oh and let me not forget the tattoo contest. The contests were followed by the traditional Pole climbing. You voluntarily try to climb up the Pole tap the ceiling and slide back down while members of the Rugby Team try to pull down your pants - oh the joys of christmas spirit!
This was not necessarily the best day for my marathon training but it was a great break from the stresses of the holiday season and enjoy good cheer with good friends.

Comments:
Now *that* is a fun race. Next year, make sure I don't plan any parties the night before!

Ooh. I am IN for next year. I didn't run when I lived in New Haven, sadly. :(

That's my kind of race!! I wish we had one like that down here. I love that you and hubby ran together and across the finish line holding hands. That's fantastic.

You and John look totally great together in that photo. I will attend the race next year, but I won't be participating in the pole climbing! My pants stay on, thank you very much!

Just checking in to see how the Disney Marathon went.

We are 1/3 of the way thru and he will be home in 3 months for mid-tour. Already counting the days!!!
