Sweet Victory

Here is the picture of the "Race Team for the day" from the Willimantic Veteran's Memorial 5k. The Running Chicks recruited some recent veterans (my husband veteran of OIF III in the middle and CSM Kim Walker OIF II on the left , CPT Anne Marie Garcia not in photo) to come out and race on a glorious 6oF November afternoon.
For anyone that has been following my blog from the start knows that my husband ALWAYS BEATS ME in races. He doesn't train or even like to run but he comes out to local 5k's and always whoops my butt. So there was some friendly trash talk going on in the Bolduc house over the last few days. We were calling friends and family members to see who they were going to take in the race and not suprisingly everyone was taking John, except my Dad of course. Saturday night was date night and as we ordered our food I had to snicker as he ordered steak tips and mashed potatoes, I was secretly thinking "that will weigh him down a bit", then I kept feeding him extra beers as the night went on, all to give myself whatever extra edge I could get.
Sunday was a beautiful day for racing and World Run Day. We set out for the race and found Dianna quickly. We took our "team for the day" photo and found the starting line. The trash talk continued even after the gun went off. We were cruising. John and his brother on my tail trying to instigate me but I kept my focus and kept my eye on the prize. John passed me about .5 mile and I was sure to keep him in my sights. Mile 1 marker came up and I glanced at my watch 6.38!!! TOO FAST!! Up and around the turn around point and heading back I knew I couldn't keep up the fast pace for much longer, luckily for me neither could John. Mile 2 I pass John!!! Here I go! I never looked back and crossed the finish line at 21:50. An all time PR for me and I beat my hubby!! What a glorious victory and a glorious day. We headed back home after collecting my 3rd place ribbon and pigged out on football munchies for the rest of the afternoon.
There's me giving the #1 sign when I realized I had clinched the victory!
Good going Michelle!
