Disney Marathon Race Report

Ok so here it is. I finished! 4hrs 48 min. The morning of the marathon John S. picked me up at 3:30am at my hotel and we headed for the Epcot parking lot. After a minor detour we found the parking area found the baggage drop off and one last stop at the portopotties before heading on the .6 mile walk to the start. Once we found our Corral there was no turning back. I made a few adjustments with my Sharpie marker and race shirt and we were off and running. We kept a nice steady pace of 11 min miles. It was very comfortable and I felt great. A couple of quick pit stops the first couple of miles but we were cruising slow and steady. We saw our fans at mile 9 and I made a quick water bottle switch with my sister in law, who made the trip down to cheer me on, and we were back cruising. We crossed the 13.1 mile marker about 2 hrs and 20 min. still feeling strong. I had been concerned about how far I could run before I would have to walk due to a lack of training but up until around 20 I continued to feel good. At 20 miles i started doing a 2 min walk and then run to the next mile marker. It wasn't hard to stay motivated when you are running down Main St in Disney World or through Animal Kingdom being cheered on by Timon and Pumba. After the marathon I took a great nap and suprinsingly found enough energy to hit Animal Kingdom to watch a parade and take a train ride on a safari. I owe some credit to my husband as I was running in his honor. i kept thinking that although my training didn't go as planned life doesn't always go as plannned and you have to buck up and roll with the punches.
