Old Running Careers
To take off of Dianna's latest post Flashback to 1992, I also had a brief running career while at UCONN. Winter break of 1994 my college boyfriend of 3 yrs broke up with me!!! I went on a mental crash and threw myself into working out and running. I would wake up and do Buns of Steel, gotta love Tamilee, go to the fieldhouse and do the stepper for about 30 minutes and then run back to my house- maybe 2 miles. This psycho routine continued through my last year at UCONN. I lost a ton of weight but gained some mental issues that I continue to work through.
The good news is I saw that boyfriend about 5 yrs ago and he has high blood pressure and psoriasis of the scalp from stress and I am happily married to the man of my dreams, who admittedly is going bald but as they say- bald is beautiful. Flakes on the shoulder- not so beautiful.
Running at UCONN now is good for my soul. When I went to UCONN for freshman orientation I recall the leader telling us "Welcome to UCONN the best 4 years of your life" . I have to say she wasn't that far off. As I run through campus that has had a makeover since, I remember the good times and how fortunate I was to make the best friends that I still have today. I am thankful that it saved me from possibly becoming a townie in my hometown in MA. I am also thankful that it is now 10 minutes from my house, has lights and allows me to get out and run with the winter hours.
Great run Tues night with the Running Chicks. By the way Dianna, when are we getting team hats?

Maybe if you're a good girl, Santa will bring you a shiny, new hat. But if you keep asking about it and ruin the surprise...no hat for you!
