Old Running Careers
To take off of Dianna's latest post Flashback to 1992, I also had a brief running career while at UCONN. Winter break of 1994 my college boyfriend of 3 yrs broke up with me!!! I went on a mental crash and threw myself into working out and running. I would wake up and do Buns of Steel, gotta love Tamilee, go to the fieldhouse and do the stepper for about 30 minutes and then run back to my house- maybe 2 miles. This psycho routine continued through my last year at UCONN. I lost a ton of weight but gained some mental issues that I continue to work through.
The good news is I saw that boyfriend about 5 yrs ago and he has high blood pressure and psoriasis of the scalp from stress and I am happily married to the man of my dreams, who admittedly is going bald but as they say- bald is beautiful. Flakes on the shoulder- not so beautiful.
Running at UCONN now is good for my soul. When I went to UCONN for freshman orientation I recall the leader telling us "Welcome to UCONN the best 4 years of your life" . I have to say she wasn't that far off. As I run through campus that has had a makeover since, I remember the good times and how fortunate I was to make the best friends that I still have today. I am thankful that it saved me from possibly becoming a townie in my hometown in MA. I am also thankful that it is now 10 minutes from my house, has lights and allows me to get out and run with the winter hours.
Great run Tues night with the Running Chicks. By the way Dianna, when are we getting team hats?

Building Miles
Last week was a good week for me. I was able to get out 3x which is good for the way things have been going. I went out and bought myself a cool reflecter vest and ventured out at my Dad's house for a 4.3 mile run on Wed. It was dark but I felt safe with my trusty vest on. What was more dangerous was the fact that it was dark on the street and I couldn't see potholes and sewer drains.
Thursday I met John for an 8 mile run around Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, MA. It was a great relaxing run in andout along the lake. Our pace was slow and steady but the time flew by discussing strategy for Disney marathon. Which is only 8 weeks away!!!! Yikes!
Sunday was my long run. 12 miles out in the country setting. A little cold to start but I warmed up quickly and had a nice relaxing run followed by a nice breakfast. The boys treated!
All in all a good week of running minus my canceled run due to sleet- to early for that stuff!
Wed- 4.3 miles
Thurs. 8 miles 1hr 22 minutes I think- 10.15 pace
Sun. 12 miles 2hr 1 min

Weekly Summary
So I got out this week. Twice with Dianna. Maggie was finally feeling better so I was able to meet Dianna at her house and we went out on the greenway for a 5.something run. It was really the first cold day/night of running. The kind of cold you feel in your chest with every breath.
Friday night we met at UCONN and ran a 25.10,3.1 mile route. Again the weather was blustery with wind gusts up to 29mph. It made a quick 3 mile run a real workout.
Sunday morning met up with my MA running partner John for an 11.3 mile long run. The hills on the course were killer but it was a great training run and my first long run in 2 weeks. With that said I am sore tonight.
Wrap up:
5 miles- don't recall
3 miles- 25.10
11.3 miles- 1hr 54 min

Time Keeps on Slipping
Running has been few and far between the past week. Last week I was able to get in a couple good runs. Thursday morning I said goodbye to my husband as he is being deployed to Iraq the beginning of Dec. Right now he is at a mobilization station in NJ. Friday I headed to my Dad's in MA to get in a nice long 6 mile run that allowed me to clear my head. Saturday was a running bust because I was up at the crack of dawn to go to the Red Sox Victory Parade. Worth every minute to see all my favs on the duckboats not to mention I got frontrow viewing. Sunday my daughter was ill with a very high scary fever that caused me to miss my long run. Unfortunately my daughter is still ill but after a visit to the Dr. tonight we are on the road to recovery. Now I have a lot of catching up to do. I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to fit all of my training in and run a healthy marathon in January. I may be forced to change my plans.
Tomorrow is another day and I will get out and run.
