Brooklyn Fair 5k

Well, there was no reason for my husband to fear me. He beat me with time to spare. Although I did not beat the hubby or attain my time goal, I had a great race anyway. I finished 4th in my division with a time of 25:38 with an 8:15 pace. The first mile was an 8:05 second mile was a little slower and I think the hills caught up to me in the 3rd mile and slowed me down. I felt fine and actually thought I was keeping pace. I was definately a little disappointed with my time as I crossed the finish line.
After reading April-Anne's blog I also need to order new socks. My second toe is already bruised and I haven't started putting on the miles yet. When I was pregnant with Maggie my feet grew a whole size and 1/2. I adjusted by buying bigger shoes but never got the new socks.
Mileage this week: 19 miles

Wed: 5 miles

This week thus far...

So, Monday a.m I got my hubby up and out of the house with me to run. Our goal was not mileage today but time. We went out 12.30 and back 12 ish. It was a great run lots to chat about after being apart for 3wks. The best part was he needed me to push the baby and I did without much heavy breathing or slowing up my pace!!!!
Tues. I took a break and went out on a date with my darling husband.
Wed. went out with Dianna and April Anne for a 5 mile trail run. I love the trails. Tonight was a little difficult for the 3 of us. Dianna with her side stitch, April Anne losing her sense of direction and myself having a difficult time avoiding the horse poop with my BRAND NEW running shoes!!! Ughhh! :(
Thurs night met up with Dianna to keep her company for 8 of her 12 miles. Great weather, nice breeze and cool temps. Perfect running conditions. The first 4 miles seemed to go by quickly with us chit chatting away, the next 4 miles went by even quicker. I'm not sure how that is possible seeing as my legs were definitely getting tired around 1hr but I trudged on keeping pace with quickchick and even kept pace on the last mile that I did alone. Finishing time 1hr 13.08!!! Proud of me!!!
As a side note, my hubby is afraid to run this weekend in the Brooklyn 5k for fear of me beating him- I must be getting quicker if I have suddenly become a threat to the reigning champ of all previous races run together!

V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N IN THE SUMMERTIME

I'm back from vacation. 8 days of rest and relaxation, well kind of. I don't think there is such a thing as rest or vacation when you have a 2 yr old in tow. I did however get in a few good runs. I finally feel like I am getting back in the swing of things. It was discouraging for a while coming back into running and not being able to go as fast as I did before my hiatus. This past Sat. I ran the Breakaway 5k in old Orchard Beach, ME. Despite the weather it was my best race in 2yrs. I finished with a time of 25.02 which put me at 8:20 pace. Not bad!

Although my mileage last week wasn't high enough, only 12 miles total, I was able to work on my speed. With 18 weeks until the marathon I will start my training program this week.

Just a quick blog before I head out on vacation for the week. Had a great run this morning and reached my goal of less than 45 min. Had a great 1st mile ran 8:30 but the hills in between 2 and 3 were killer not to mention the one that came at the end. Anyway, till next week...

Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot...

Went out with the jog stroller today for a nice 4 mile jog. I left a little late today because Maggie and I were having some difficulty getting ready and out the door. That struggle used up 1/2 my energy before I even hit the trail. I ran the trail once with Dianna and April- Anne and I remembered it to be a lot shadier than it really is. That may be because with the girls, minus the baby, I was up and on the road by 9am. Today I was out there at 11:00 when the temp was a breezy 79 degrees! The first 2 miles went by quick and I didn't struggle as much with the stroller today. The 2 miles back were a little tougher due to the sun and heat and the 30 lbs I was pushing began to weigh on me. That is also the longest distance I have ever pushed the stroller myself. Dianna, you will be proud to know that not only were there no litter bugs, the trail was trash free!:) After I was finished with the run I noticed that my stroller was out of alignment so I took it to my father-in-law for a quick tune up. Let's see if that helps tomorrow when I'm out for 3 (hopefully early).

What I Think About When I Run...

So April-Anne wants to know what I think about when I run. Usually I am thinking "Am I there yet?"! Sometimes I'm thinking of how fortunate I am that I have legs that can run. Other times I don't think at all. I enjoy running with a partner so the time flies by quicker and the mood usually stays light and fun. I enjoy running with my daughter because I can really test my strength both mentally and physically to push her in the stroller and maintain enough wind to sing every known nursery song over and over and over again! I enjoy running alone when I need solitude to forget that I am a wife, a mother and remember that I am me.

The Woods are Lovely...

"The woods are lovely dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep." - Robert Frost

Tonight I was fortunate enough to find a babysitter and join April-Anne and Dianna for their trail run. 3 miles at a light , quick pace. As we came out of the woods it was just in time to see the sky changing to a light red as the sun was getting ready to set over the lake. It was so nice I almost forgot about all the hills in the course -that the girls so casually forgot to mention!
Weather- 72 degrees and clear

Fast and Long

Got out for a great run on Sat. morning with Dianna and April. Ran 6 quick miles. I think Dianna should consider renaming herself quickchick rather than runningchick! :) We had a great long run. It went by very quickly as we chatted away the miles. The hills came at the end which was a bit of a challenge but as my dad always says "what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger". I think I felt Xena strong at the end of the run. I'm definitely looking forward to future runs with my new pals.
Was hoping to get out and do a short run today and drag my step sister with me but realized as I was getting changed to go out I left my running shoes at home and I was at my Dad's for another visit. This made my sister very happy and also compelled me to go on the computer and order my marathon sneakers this way my old ones can be a back up in the car. After placing the order I realized this is it, I am officially committed to the marathon! Disney here I come in my New New Balance 753s.

Tues. 2.6 miles pushing the stroller
Wed. 4.5 ish lost in the woods

Home Again, Home Again...

Came home to my Dad's for a couple of days of R&R. Ran a pretty good route today. Forgot how much I miss living in civilization. No dogs chasing me down the street, sidewalks even in some places. It's good to be "home". Felt great for the first mile or so but then I got extremely hungry which isn't something that normally happens. It was a good run overall once I got over the hunger pangs focused on the nice weather and made it home again. Gearing up for my 6 miler tomorrow with Dianna and April-Anne. Hope I can keep up!

Slipping and Sliding

Had a quick run today. I had to take the baby today so it made for a shorter route. I still haven't found a comfortable position to push the stroller. I've tried running behind it and to the side but each gets awkward quick. Oh well, I'll keep experimenting. If anyone has any advice I'd love to hear it!
The roads were slick and wet but the temperature was nice. I even wore long sleeves!
Happy trails!

Lost in Space

Went out with the intention of a quick 3 mile run today. The result was getting lost in some scary woods and 46.53.00 minutes later finding my car.
I decided to be adventurous and seek new routes. The trail I was on vanished so I thought I could use my 6th sense to find my way back. That didn't work I ended up on the road. Now I'm figuring I can find my way back alot easier on the road- WRONG! All it took was 1 wrong turn and I was heading in the opposite direction of where I wanted to be. Luckily, a little man on a moped came by so I flagged him down and he told me to turn around and then proceeded to give me directions back to the parking lot I had started in.
Note to self- bring a friend when trying new terrain! Better yet, bring a map!
Temp- 78degrees
Time- 46.53
Distance- unknown :) about 4 1/2

Peoples Beach to Beacon 10k Road Race - 2004 Results

Peoples Beach to Beacon 10k Road Race - 2004 Results
Not sure of the temperature that morning but I am sure o f 1 thing- it rained!!! I woke up out of a sound sleep to sounds of raindrops falling on the tin roof of my mom's trailer in OOB. First thought- good I don't have to run today. Second thought- i still have to run, this just makes it all the more miserable :). The rain did taper off to a drizzle by race time. Had a great first mile after I finally made it to the start line. The second mile slowed me up a little. I think I was talking too much- imagine that! Anyway made up a lot of time in the second 5k of the race, making it possible to finish in under an hour which was my goal. (with 26 sec. to spare may I add). I encourage everyone to sign up for next year's race. It's a well organized and a great course!
